Chiang Mai is the biggest city in northern Thailand. Due to it being on a higher elevation, Chiang Mai has a cooler whether, particularly at the end of the year. The city was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, before it became part of Siam. As a result, it has many temples built in the Lanna style which are different from those you will in Bangkok. The temples are beautifully restored. Admire their exquisite carvings and lacquer ornamentation.

The Old City of Chiang Mai is surrounded by a fortress. Within the old city are lots of ancient buildings. When you get tired, you can stop at the sidewalk stalls for a meal or a cold drink. There are also plenty of tuk tuks to take you around.

Chiang Mai is one of the destinations offered by Beautiful Planet. To plan your holiday there, speak with your travel consultant at Beautiful Planet!
